Accidents involving work-related machinery, poisoning, falls, suffocation, choking, drowning, and fires are generally covered by an accidental death and dismemberment policy.

It also typically covers deaths that result from an accident that occurs while riding as a fare-paying passenger on a bus, train, airplane, ferry, taxi, or another common carrier.

A death must occur within a few months of the accident in order to be covered by the policy. Death or injury that is not directly the result of an accident is not covered.
